For the moments when you don’t know what to say anymore
Bring one real situation: the tantrum, the bedtime battle, the backchat. Together we’ll find calm, clear words that keep the boundary and protect the connection.
Start with a free 20-minute conversation. No obligation.
Some parenting moments leave you wondering what else you can possibly try. You have explained, repeated yourself, stayed calm, set consequences — and still the same argument, refusal or emotional moment keeps returning. Sometimes the problem is not that you need to try harder. You may simply need a different way to understand what is happening — and different words for what happens next.
A different way to respond — without losing the boundary
The Tantrum & Bedtime Reset
A 45-minute private session, online or in Durbanville.
Bring one real moment that keeps going wrong. You’ll leave with the exact words to try tonight, and a calm plan for the next hard moment.

Gentle Words does not mean ignoring difficult behaviour, removing consequences or allowing a child to decide the boundary. It means looking at what may be happening underneath the behaviour and choosing language that addresses the moment without turning the behaviour into the child’s identity. The boundary can stay firm while the words around it change.
When the same difficult moments keep happening
- Tantrums
- Bedtime resistance
- Public meltdowns
- Backchat
- Refusals
Name it Don’t claim it.
There is an important difference between describing what a child is doing and describing who that child is. When we say, “You are difficult,” “You are naughty,” or “You are lazy,” we may be talking about one difficult moment — but the child can begin to hear those words as a description of who they are. Gentle Words teaches us to name what is happening without asking the child to carry it as an identity.
For example, instead of “You are being difficult,” we might say, “You’re finding it difficult to stop playing and get ready for bed.” Bedtime has not changed. The boundary has not disappeared. But we have described the struggle without making “difficult” part of the child’s identity.
This is the heart of the Gentle Words approach: keep the boundary, change the language.
How a session works
You bring a real situation you are struggling with — perhaps bedtime has become a battle, your child keeps refusing, or you find yourself repeating the same words without getting anywhere. Together, we slow that moment down. We look at what may be happening beneath the behaviour, the language currently being used, and what you want your child to understand. Then we develop practical words and responses that fit your situation, your child and the boundary you need to keep.

What you can take away from a session
You may leave with:
- A clearer understanding of what may be happening beneath the behaviour.
- Practical words and responses to try when the difficult moment happens again.
- A way to keep the boundary clear without turning the behaviour into a label your child carries.
- Greater confidence in what to say next — with a clearer, more constructive way to respond.
I no longer feel that I have to be the referee every time my children disagree. I have a better understanding of what they need from me in those moments, and I can respond with more calm and confidence.
